Outdoor dining area with Spanish vibes at Villa Valentina

On Mälarterrassen by Slussen, with a fantastic view over Gamla Stan and Stockholm's waters, Villa Valentina has opened its doors. The restaurant describes itself as a modern interpretation of a Spanish farmhouse where the warmth of Andalusia meets Stockholm from the heights of Slussen.

Here, Spanish gastronomy and Mediterranean-inspired small dishes are central, served in an environment characterised by community, long lunches, late dinners and sunny evenings on the terrace. Villa Valentina is one of the most exciting additions to the new area at Mälarterrassen and offers a restaurant experience that transports guests far from everyday life, even though they are in the middle of Stockholm.

It is immediately apparent that Villa Valentina is a project where nothing has been left to chance. Interior design, material choices, colours and details have been chosen with great care to create a genuine feeling of southern Spain. Stepping through the doors is almost like leaving Stockholm for a moment and being transported to a restaurant somewhere along the Mediterranean coast.

When it came time to design the outdoor dining area, it was therefore obvious that the sun shading solution also needed to become a natural part of the overall experience. Function was important, but just as important was that the solution should harmonise with the restaurant's well-thought-out design concept and contribute to the atmosphere that Villa Valentina wants to convey.

To create an outdoor dining area that works equally well on warm summer days and cooler evenings, we supplied the Select awning system together with integrated infrared heaters.

The solution allows the restaurant to offer its guests a comfortable outdoor environment regardless of weather conditions. At the same time, great importance has been placed on the aesthetic expression. The posts for the awning system have been clad with wood material that harmonises with the restaurant's other interior design and creates a warm and natural impression.

The result is a solution where technology and design interact in a way that feels natural for the location.

The real eye-catcher of the project is undoubtedly the awning fabric. Instead of a traditional plain solution, a specially printed pattern was chosen, giving the outdoor dining area its own unique character.

When the awnings are extended, a fantastic frame is created for the entire serving area. The pattern adds life, colour and personality while enhancing the Southern European feel that permeates the entire restaurant. It is a detail that truly elevates the whole and makes the outdoor dining area stand out in the best possible way.

It has been incredibly enjoyable to be part of Villa Valentina's journey leading up to the opening. Working on projects where design, function, and experience can interact at this level is precisely the type of assignment we are passionate about.

We are very proud of the result and would like to extend a big thank you to the entire team behind Villa Valentina for their trust. We wish you all the best for the future and look forward to following your continued journey on Mälarterrassen.
