Villa Valentina – A sign project where craftsmanship takes centre stage

When Villa Valentina opened at Mälarterrassen, we at PS Skylt & Inredning had the opportunity to contribute in several ways. In addition to the signage, we also supplied the beautiful awning system for the restaurant's outdoor dining area, which we have written more about in a separate post.

It is especially enjoyable to be part of different aspects when a new restaurant is taking shape. In this project, we were tasked with creating the first thing many of the restaurant's guests encounter, the entrance sign.

Villa Valentina is a restaurant where the interior and décor play a large role in the overall experience. Throughout the restaurant, various materials, colours, and crafts meet, together creating the feeling of a Spanish farmhouse where the warmth of Andalusia meets Stockholm from the heights of Slussen.

One of the materials that recurs in the restaurant is mosaic. Therefore, it was clear early on that mosaic would play a central role in the entrance sign as well. The sign would not only display the restaurant's name but also feel like a natural part of the environment and the expression that Villa Valentina has built up.

The proposal was for an illuminated sign with freestanding letters mounted on pins. The letter body is constructed in two parts, where the back part consists of white acrylic that illuminates from within, while the front part is made of black acrylic. This combination creates an impactful expression where the letters emit a soft glow that looks particularly beautiful when darkness falls.

An aluminium plate covered in beautiful mosaic is used as the base. The entire sign is then framed by a lacquered frame that both suits the sign's expression and connects to the property's architecture through material and colour. The result is a sign where each part has a function, but where materials and details together create the expression that makes it special.

Once the design and sign permits were approved, production of the sign could begin. This was a sign that demanded a little extra from our team, and our skilled fitters carefully assembled the different parts in our own production facility.

Manufacturing a sign of this type requires precision and meticulousness throughout the process. One of the advantages of having our own production is the close collaboration between project managers and production. By having insight into the project all the way, we can collectively ensure that details, materials, and execution align with both the design and the customer's expectations.
This is also where we truly get the opportunity to let craftsmanship take centre stage.

Once the sign was complete, it was installed on site by our own fitters. And the result was exactly the feeling we had hoped for.
The entrance sign has become a part of the restaurant's overall aesthetic and captures materials, colours, and craftsmanship from the interior even before guests step inside the door. In the evening, the illuminated letters truly come into their own, giving the sign a soft and vibrant expression.

We are incredibly pleased with the result and, above all, with the opportunity to be part of such a creative and well-executed project.
A big thank you to Villa Valentina for an incredibly enjoyable assignment and for the trust to create a sign that is truly a work of craftsmanship in itself!
